Hi! My name is Jeandell
I appreciate you being here and getting to know a bit about me and our counseling team. It means that you are contemplating the beginning of your therapeutic journey. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate in the State of Texas. I grew up here in Houston and call it my hometown. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in both Biology and English, and then with my Master of Arts in Counseling at Houston Baptist University. I completed a research medical fellowship with a focus on children with conduct disorder at University of Texas-Houston Health Science Center, Mental Science Institute, and Harris County Psychiatric Center. When I participated in a medical mission abroad, I provided counsel to families in distress who survived earthquakes and other natural disasters with amazing resilience. I also volunteered in various therapies (therapeutic equine-assisted rehabilitation, music therapy, dance/movement therapy) with adolescents and young adults with physical and cognitive disabilities as well as seniors and veterans at residential facilities in our community. These poignant experiences inspired me so much that I knew that I wanted to help make a difference in people’s lives through counseling.
I believe that building a strong therapeutic alliance is more important than any set of techniques, which is central to Person-Centered Therapy (PCT). Based on this approach, clients are able to feel a sense of self-empowerment, respect, and autonomy. Through a strengths-based and solutions-focused lens, I draw on multiple treatment modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), to guide clients in identifying strengths and developing specific treatment plans. I support clients through developing coping skills with the goal of moving them towards a life involving the capacity for experiencing joy and freedom. I aim to create an authentic and comfortable space for individuals to collaborate with me in achieving their personal goals. It takes courage to seek out mental health counseling and I intend to support you with the best resources available.
Outside of my work as a counselor, I have served as the Primary Yoga Therapist for Houston Area Parkinson’s Society, M.S. Society, and other organizations. I am passionate about animals and have rescued and fostered several over the years. I enjoy traveling, visiting museums, beaches, and botanical gardens, where I pray or meditate with my lovely dog at my side.
