Hi, I’m Jeanine!

I love being a part of the team here at Calderas Counseling and I cannot wait to meet you. Here’s a little bit about me.

I have always been that person in my friend group who people came to when they needed help or just wanted me to listen. It took me a little bit of time and exploring until I found what I wanted and knew I needed to be. I attended the University of Houston with intent of becoming a dentist and needless to say, that did not go as planned. But what does?! I started off as a biology major and soon changed that to human nutrition and foods. By my senior year in college, I knew I did not enjoy nutrition and did not want to become a registered dietician. I was too far into my program to change directions, so I kept going and graduated December of 2013.

After graduating college, I was terrified. All I knew for so long was being a student and not having to worry about anything else. That’s when reality hit me that this was the start of adulthood for me. I had to start looking for a job and that was a challenge in itself! That was around the time when I had a friend encourage me to become a teacher, and me being me, I said “okay, how do I start?” The next thing I knew, I was a certified teacher in the state of Texas that summer and got hired to be a 5th grade teacher. I never saw myself as a teacher, but I quickly knew this was perfect for me. During my four years teaching, I knew I made an impact with my students not only by teaching them, but by actually listening to them and being there for them. This gave me the idea to become a school counselor and to go back to school to get my master’s. I got accepted at Sam Houston State University, and began my journey to becoming a counselor. I LOVED my master’s program and I knew this was the right fit for me. Everything about it just felt so right. I graduated in May of 2017 then became a school counselor that summer.

Even though I did not grow up thinking this was the direction my life was going to head in, I’m glad I got here because this is where I feel most myself. I loved being a school counselor for those 3 years. I learned so much and also grew as an individual. After 7 years in education, I knew I needed a change. That’s when I found myself here at Calderas Counseling. My 10 year-old self never saw myself becoming a therapist. Things happened just the way they were supposed to. I couldn’t be happier to be able to help so many individuals with their healing journey.

It's always interesting for me to look back on my journey from where I thought I wanted to be, to where I actually was meant to be. Life does not always go as planned and that’s totally okay! Sometimes you just have to let go of that sense of control.

When I’m not working, I’m hanging out with my husband and our 2 dogs. We love to explore, but we especially love to be in nature and to hike.
