Team Member Spotlight-Carla

Hello and Happy Friday!

I want to start by saying that 2022 was a great year, thank you! We helped many people in our community, we worked with some school districts in our community, and we had new therapists and a receptionist join our team. All this to say that I am very grateful for what this year has taught me and I look forward to many more amazing years.

To keep things consistent I will answer the same questions our team members have. I hope you enjoy learning more about me:

What I love about me: I am a life-long learner so in my free time I am reading non-fiction books or learning a new skill (voice lessons, golf lessons, Zumba instructor), I am very productive and I get a lot done during my day, and I love that I have hope; hope for a better world, hope that we are all doing our best, and hope that we can all heal.

Why do you love being a part of Calderas Counseling?

I love being part of Calderas Counseling because I work hard every day to make our company great. From providing excellent care to my clients to checking in with our therapists. I take time to encourage our team members and my priority is for our company to be a positive and loving environment.

What do you enjoy most about your work with clients?

I love making a difference in people's life. I feel truly blessed to wake up every day and have sessions with my clients where we celebrate what is going well, we notice patterns that need addressing, and we work together to improve their quality of life.

What challenged you this week? Could you have handled it differently?

Stress. Life can be stressful and events or situations that we encounter can bring pressure and discomfort. This week I felt the stress in my body. When this happens, I make sure that I am consistent with my morning routine, I take time to pause/breathe/check-in with myself, and I get a service to help me (acupuncture, cupping, massage, etc.). Since the end of the year is a really busy time as a business owner I have not made time to get any services this week so I could have made scheduling an appointment a priority.

What three things do you need to succeed for the week?

  1. My morning routine: the first thing that I do once I turn off my alarm is diaphragmatic breathing for at least 5 minutes, then meditation for 12-20 minutes, the I do oil pulling as I read something inspirational for 20 minutes, then I move my body (depending on time, it can be 5 minutes of stretching or 1 hour at the gym), then I get ready for the day.

  2. My phone... for business, personal, and everything in between.

  3. Water. I love water! I love drinking water, looking at bodies of water, and being in water.

Who inspires you?

This is a difficult question because I think everyone I meet inspires me but to keep this short I will say my family and my clients. My mom is a strong and resilient woman (she raised me as a single mom), my brother is a kind and compassionate man, and my husband is a hard working and understanding man. My clients inspire me because they are brave; they come to therapy and talk about their fears, trauma, and are open to being vulnerable, they do the work we discuss in sessions, and make it a priority to work on themselves. I learn more about who I am and who I am becoming as they inspire me to do better and be better.

Thank you for reading this. I hope you have a wonderful New Year and that 2023 brings joy, peace, and love to you.

With gratitude,

Carla
