Hi, I'm Tonja!

I am happy and excited to be working with the amazing therapists at Calderas Counseling! I look forward to meeting you and helping you become the best version of yourself. Here are some fun facts about me and my story.

I was born in Illinois the oldest of two siblings, a brother and a sister. I experienced a lot of loss in my life. Life is so unpredictable and can take us down some really painful roads. It’s how we maneuver those roads and coming to the realization that we may get lost sometimes and we may take some unexpected detours along the way. It’s not about how long it takes us to get to the final destination but having the courage to never give up, to keep trying, and to know that you are worth it! I spent years in therapy dusting myself off and moving through grief to get to the other side. Once I got to the other side there was a newfound peace that I had not felt in awhile. I felt eternally grateful, free,  and empowered to take all the experiences that I had learned along the way and felt inspired to share those with others. I knew that my passion was going to help others free themselves from pain and find peace again. I began my journey to become a therapist and graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2017 with a Master Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

The day that I graduated from high school was the same day that I joined The United States Navy. I spent 11 years in the military and had amazing experiences traveling to different countries and learning from many different cultures that taught me so much about the human spirit. I would love to one day give back to my fellow veterans and help veterans process through any trauma they may have encountered in the military and transition smoothly into civilian life.

I also graduated from The University of Phoenix in 2006 with a Master Degree in Business Administration. I always felt that business was not my true calling and it never really fit me. Being a therapist is what I am passionate about doing and fits me.

When I am not working, I love spending time with my husband and two children. I love hosting family dinners, family game nights, and family vacation trips. We always have the best time and make new memories together as a family. I also enjoy taking walks in nature, meditating, and reading a great book that you just can’t put down with a nice cup of coffee.

I am grateful for you, thank you for reading about me, and I look forward to hearing your story!
